Fashion’s most iconic night just took place and fashion enthusiasts were left picking up their jaws from the floor.
This year’s Met Gala theme was based around the Japanese fashion label Comme des Garçons – French for “like some boys” – that was founded by Rei Kawakubo in 1973. This design house challenged fashion perspectives by merging creative architectural elements into the fluidity of garments.
Kawakubo is in many ways a fashion oracle hence the reason she was chosen as the sole inspiration for the 2017 Met Gala and Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute exhibition. Noteably, she’s the first designer in over 30 years to own the theme of fashion’s biggest night.
Needless to say, many A-listers walking the red carpet Monday night put their best foot forward. From Rita Ora’s stunning, red Marchesa’s ensemble to Rihanna’s daring Comme des Garçons piece, there were many reasons to applaud last night’s event.
