Home Décor: How to make your home cozier

With a family on the way, I’ve been more aware of the pieces in my house that may be coming to the end of their tenure. Like tables with sharp edges or the large floor lamps that may topple over if bumped into by a toddler and even the fragile hour glasses that sit pretty on my console.

It’s not that they these pieces feel very modern or clinical, it’s just that I can’t help but wonder how long it’ll be before they go from being beautiful decorative items into hazards.

That got me thinking about some of the pieces that could make a home feel warmer and cozier with little to no effort.

Here are some quick tips to turn your home into a lovely, snug nest, whether or not there’s a baby on the way!

Go Green

There’s nothing like bringing a bit of the outdoors, indoors. This especially works well if you’ve got more of a modern home with clean lines and want to break those with colour and life.

There’s nothing like a spider plant on a hanging basket or an easy-care succulent like the aloe sitting by your kitchen windowsill to make your home feel more lived in.

Layer Rugs over Carpets

Not only does this add a fun design element to your home, it’s also going to be a comfy way of defining a space and adding personality. Just be sure not to layer too many rugs as it might end up looking more like a carpet bazaar rather than a chic, cozy home!

It’s also important to take note of texture, print and colours when choosing your layered rugs so don’t be too quick to purchase the first beautiful rug you see before considering its compatibility with the one you already have at home.

Framed Memories

Why not take some time to create a gallery wall that helps really warm things up and make your space feel like a family friendly home? Some fun artwork can also help you home feel more finished and add some splash and personality into the room.

If you’ve got kids who love gifting you their artwork, this can be a great way to pick your favourites out and add them to the gallery wall for a sentimental touch!

Throws and Cushions

Finally, if you really want to get your space feeling cozy, invest in some luxurious throws and soft pillows.

Whether you choose to go for a knit, cotton or faux fur throw blanket or mix up your floor pillows with cozy accent ones on your couch, these will really help bring out a lived-in feel to your space.
