‘Carpool Karaoke’ to become Apple Music series

“Carpool Karaoke,” the viral late-night television skit in which celebrities from Adele to Michelle Obama sing along in a moving car, is expanding to Apple Music.

The tech giant and CBS television, which broadcasts the recurring segment as part of “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” announced Tuesday that “Carpool Karaoke” will become a 16-episode series for Apple Music.

Corden will still air “Carpool Karaoke” on his show but a new version — with a host to be determined – will appear on Apple Music, the company’s streaming service launched last year.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of internet software and services, said the series was “a perfect fit” for the service by offering exclusive footage with artists and celebrities.

“The joy of ‘Carpool’ is both the intimacy it creates, while seeing the love our passengers have for music,” Ben Winston, executive producer of “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” said in a statement.

Corden introduced the skit last year to his show and it has quickly taken on a life beyond late-night television, with more than 830 million total views on YouTube.

The most successful starred British ballad singer Adele, who showed a close-up and laid-back side to herself despite her phenomenal commercial success.

Adele’s segment has been seen more than 119 million times on YouTube in six months, the most ever for a segment from the world of late-night television comedy.

A segment with First Lady Michelle Obama along with rapper Missy Elliott came out five days ago and has been seen more than 32 million times.

Other stars who have appeared on “Carpool Karaoke” include Justin Bieber, One Direction, Elton John, Jennifer Lopez and Stevie Wonder.

Apple, which revolutionized music consumption when it launched iTunes in 2001, last year made a concerted push into the booming area of streaming through Apple Music.

The company says the service has drawn 15 million subscribers but it still trails leader Spotify, which said it had 28 million paying subscribers at the end of 2015.

Apple and rap mogul Jay Z’s upstart rival Tidal have tried to distinguish themselves with exclusive content as well as more integration with video than Spotify.

With its knack for technological innovation, Apple has long seemed invincible although its quarterly profits announced Tuesday slumped 27 percent from a year earlier.

Uhuru has to work with others or simply forget not only the presidency, but also his political career. That he seems to believe that with money, he can easily buy leadership is not in doubt at all. What he fails to come to terms with are the daunting challenges that surround his venture. First, ICC matter neither affords him that empty power display nor independence of action. He should see beyond the narrow. Secondly, apart from a few of us who are encouraging him to pursue his presidential bid, simply out of tribal loyalty, his chances of succeeding outside our central region is totally nil. Kenyans are too tribalized to give him any hearing. And given the fact that every region has a candidate. Its even moreso, when he is armed with nothing in terms of achievements. His father’s brand hardly adds any value to his candidacy.

    Very well said.I come from Central and i have nothing against my brother Uhuru.I know he will not like what i post but here lies the truth.KENYA WILL NOT HAVE A THIRD GIKUYU PRESIDENT!!!If i were him,i would be looking for someone to back.Indeed,this would bring good will to the people of Central and define peace thereafter.If he insists on running,the he can keep this post and let’s compare notes a week after the polls.

    • @edge: You are very right pal. You know after brother Uhuru went around the country during our prayers for him and other brothers, he started overrating himself. However, the brother is politically too green. He even has a very conceited view of issues. I guess, thats why PM Raila was effortlessly able to undo the initial G7 gains. Uhuru easily fell for malicious propaganda to the effect that people like our next door brother, VP Kalonzo Musyoka, was praying to have him carted away to Hague so that he fills the void. All indications are that Uhuru took that very seriously indeed. He forgot that whatever the case, Kalonzo was going to run for the presidency. He ran in 2007 on his own when Uhuru was not even in the picture. Uhuru too forgot that Kalonzo had to face huge political negatives from merchants of deceit on the shuttle diplomacy. Of course, it wasnt a must for brother Kalonzo to embark on it. But Uhuru failed to appreciate that sincerity has costs. The reasons for that are too obvious, arrest by vicious lies against the the brother VP!

      Uhuru was to later charge that PM Raila was seeing things in a rear view mirror. That was a monumental blunder and another sign that the village brother has no tools to counter Raila’s toxic propaganda. First, by talking of rear view mirrors, Uhuru was unwittingly acknowledging the legitimacy of Raila’s false feats. That way, he had flatly fallen for fake reform credentials. That in effect, makes Raila an assailable opponent to him. If PM Raila was supposedly genuinely pushing forward reform agenda, where would Uhuru fit in since he cant escape status-quo tag? No wonder his ratings in false opinion polls had gone up! Its a set up maked by innocencious looks. But unfortunately, our village brother believes in those fraudulent polls produced, not conducted!, by Raila’s most loyal villagers. Seen a Mr. Jerry Okungu on K24’s crossfire programme? He is the CEO of the so called Infotrak Harris whatever! You know who is Madam Angela Ambitho? Someone is trying to push water uphill pal!!!!
