#Conservation: Ringo the Rhino succumbs to illness

The beloved southern white rhino calf named Ringo succumbed to his illness on 19th of July.

The abandoned calf had been unwell for two weeks at Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Despite the best efforts of the dedicated team of caregivers and vets, and specialists in South Africa, Ringo died during the night with his caregivers by his side.

Unfortunately, raising wild-born rhinos in captivity is notoriously difficult. Inevitably, no matter how hard the team at Ol Pejeta tried, humans can never replicate the environment that a rhino calf would be exposed to in the wild.

During his short life, Ringo inspired hundreds of people all over the world with his playful antics and irresistible charm. In simply being himself, he helped to raise awareness about the plight of rhinos in Africa and conservation efforts.
