THE REVENANT

“The Revenant” surged to the top of the box office in North America on a weekend when Leonardo DiCaprio’s antics on treacherous snow-covered mountains may have rung a little too true for some, industry estimates showed Sunday.

New York, Washington and the rest of the eastern United States were blasted from Friday into Sunday with a blizzard that left millions hunkered down at home and saw shops — and movie theaters — forced to close.

But that did not stop “The Revenant,” boosted by 12 Oscar nominations and feted at the Golden Globes, taking box office top spot from Friday to Sunday, according to forecasts by box office tracker Exhibitor Relations.

“The Revenant,” a dark tale of survival and revenge, took in $16 million to reach the box office summit for the first time in its fifth week in cinemas.

That was down a massive 50 percent on last weekend — a casualty of the mammoth blizzard. All the movies in the box office standings suffered similar plunges.

Second was “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which was narrowly edged out with $14.3 million, for a total of a whopping $879.3 million since release and extending its all-time record at the North American box office.

The worldwide total for the latest installment in the blockbuster space saga stood at $1.94 billion — third place overall behind “Avatar” and “Titanic.”

In third place in North America was the comedy “Ride Along 2,” which fell from top spot last week, raking in $13 million over the three days.

In fourth spot was a new entry, the R-rated comedy “Dirty Grandpa” starring Zac Efron and Robert De Niro, with $11.5 million.

Fifth, with $11.3 million, was thriller-horror “The Boy,” about an American nanny who finds that her English family’s boy is actually… a life-sized doll.

Rounding out the top 10 were:

– “The 5th Wave” ($10.7 million)

– “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” ($9.8 million)

– “Daddy’s Home” ($5.3 million)

– “Norm of the North” ($4.1 million)

– “The Big Short” ($3.5 million)

Final figures were due on Monday.

What a shameless bunch of hypocrites these Europeans are.  At this age and time, African refugees are physically shoved off the European beachheads by Armed Naval Ships, despite the extremely dangerous conveyance they are crammed into to make the Mediterranean Sea crossing, frequently to drown in their hundreds when these skiffs capsize under their weight.  And for those that make landing, they are headed into NAZI-type concentration camps in Europe without any rights nor human dignity.  Yet, they endlessly pontificated with typical haughty arrogance that ”Kenya cannot relocate Somali Refugees” ( poor people!) from the grossly overcrowded squalor of the Refugee Camps, citing ”International Laws” and ”Conventions” which apparently the Europeans are not subject to.

AMISOM/KDF should assert strongly in their efforts to Liberate Somalia, its now very far from been liberated. Since Nov 2011, Kenyan defence forces are unable to move an inch from Hayo and Qoqaani, they are not moving to Kosmayo or even Afmadow, they are just stuck, i dont know why they cant vanquish Alshabab and cleans Afmadow and other big town from Shabab and ultinately capture Kismayo, unless this is done the KDF so called success is just a dream and can only be told to naive person who does not know the somali border towns. Look what KDF is always boosting as captured towns are very small remote grazing area/villages, and they are unable to move deeper, so why do you want Somali refugees to go back to Shabab when KDF is unable to beat Shabab, how can the hapless somali refugees withstand Alshabab brutality
