Gallery: Big Five Breweries unveils limited edition craft beer

The Big Five Breweries (Brew Bistro & Lounge) unveiled the highly anticipated limited edition craft beer ‘ENKARE’aged in the distinctive Jameson Irish Whiskey seasoned barrels.

Jameson’s passion for craft, quality and neighbourhood collaboration explores a first for Sub-Saharan Africa with this one-of-a-kind beer that celebrates two local loves: whiskey and beer.

For inspiration Big Five Breweries, Master Brewer Aleem Ladak spent time at the iconic Jameson distillery in Ireland. For him, the aim was to create a beer inspired by his experience yet with a distinctly Kenyan feel.

Enkare is a full-bodied, rich Jameson barrel aged Tripel Ale. It is perfectly balanced with the distinctive flavour of caramel and roasted coffee from the malt. Hints of vanilla, oak and spicy fruit derived from the bourbon barrels. Crafted to be enjoyed one sip at a time.

ENKARE, inspired by the Masai phrase for ‘cool water’, reflects the true spirit of the city: laidback and friendly. Conceptualized by 24-year-old Reinier Khamala Wanjala, an architectural student who beat out several submissions to create an exceptional logo and bottle label in an open call competition. His winning brand emphasizes the bond between the essence of Nairobi and Dublin. At its heart is the inspiration of the Jameson motto ‘SINE METU’ without fear.
