diamond platinum afrima 2015 award

The glitz and glam of the 2015 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) was broadcasted live to 84 countries on 109 television stations across the world from Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday (November 15).

AFRIMA, in partnership with the African Union Commission, hope to recognize, award, promote and preserve Africa’s rich music culture. Held in the most populous city in Nigeria, Lagos is renowned as the hub of music, entertainment and commerce in Western Africa. Lagos is also globally recognised as an African megacity for business and tourism.

The evening’s biggest winner was Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, who won three awards including the coveted Artist of the Year, Best Male Artist in Eastern Africa, and Song of the Year. The superstar wrapped up the evening with an energetic performance of his hit song ‘Number One’ to the delight of the crowd.

The 2015 edition of The Awards, held at EKO Hotel & Suites, saw winners awarded with a 23.9 karat gold-plated drum and microphone- shaped trophy. The fusion of the Djembe drum – an instrument of the Bamana people of Mali – and the contemporary microphone reflects AFRIMA’s goal in bridging the gap between classic and contemporary musicians of Africa.
