Whether you opt for jeans or trousers, make sure you have at least one pair of flared pants in your wardrobe this season.

The flared trend decoded

Spotted on everyone from Amal Clooney to Victoria Beckham and Heidi Klum, flared bottoms are a must-have for spring 2015. The look fits in perfectly with the ’70s trend that’s one of the hottest looks this season. This time around the flare is more muted than the bell-bottoms of yesteryear. The look is extremely flattering – it balances out the curve of the hip and elongates the leg, making you look slimmer.

Choosing the right pair of flares

A pair that’s fitted at the thigh and then flares from the knee is flattering on all body types. Flared jeans, printed trousers and pants in neutral colours are the best way to pull off this look.

What to wear with flared bottoms

Proportion is everything when it comes to getting this look right. Structured blouses and tops work well as they balance out the width of the flare. Try belted bottoms and tucking in your top to showcase your waist. If you’re self-conscious about your thighs or are pear-shaped, a longer-length top is a great option. Tunics and blazers are also good choices.
