Nikon opens multimillion showroom in Nairobi’s Thika Road Mall

Nikon, a Tokyo-based world leader in digital imaging and manufacturer of high-end digital cameras, has opened a multimillion showroom in Kenya.

Nikon has invested in a Sh20 million showroom at the Thika Road Mall with their main aim being the need to cater to the needs of the Kenyan photographers and the growing number of photography enthusiasts. The showroom is a first of its kind in Africa with  similar showrooms existing only  in Europe and the United States.

The launch of the Nikon Nairobi showroom is part of the firm’s growth and expansion strategy to tap into the growing film market in Africa by offering customers with variety of quality products and services in the market. During the launch, The Managing Director for Nikon Middle East Africa and North Africa, Takashi Yoshida, addressed the challenges and opportunities for film industry in the region.

“Kenya has a growing culture in photography and it has a lot to offer in terms of beautiful scenery, people and wildlife making it the perfect place to nurture next-level photography with the best quality and readily available equipment hence the need to launch a Nikon partnership.” said Mr. Yoshida,  as he also unveiled a multimillion project to tap into local film industry.

“We believe Kenya has the potential to develop the local industry. Our cameras are fully capable of movie content. In South Africa Nikon D810 and D750 are being used in the film industry and we believe this initiative can go a long way in empowering local content providers which the government is advocating for,” Yoshida added.

Presently, Nikon has a training program for first time buyers and occasionally bring in international photographers like Stephen Segal who is a renowned South African photographer who will be training about 340 photographers at Oshwal Academy auditorium on maximizing the functionalities of a Nikon camera.

Nikon school initiative also offers free training to local photographers for this one will need to register for the free classes on www.isl.co.ke/nikonschool .

Nikon’s products include cameras, lenses, binoculars among other digital imaging, precision optics and photo imaging technologies. Apart from the new showroom at the Thika Road Mall, Nikon has further sub-contracted Nakumatt Supermarkets and 10 other dealers countrywide to supply Nikon products. This is in addition to facilitating training, maintenance and repair services.
