Stella McCartney unveiled a range of “fur free fur” coats during her Paris Fashion Week show yesterday (09.03.15).

The 43-year-old designer featured a number of glamorous, shiny and shaggy faux-fur coats in her catwalk show and admits her inspiration is to stop women from wearing real fur altogether.

Stella – who is a life-long vegetarian and pioneer of non-leather shoes and handbags – has until now refused to include even fake fur in her collections.

However, she’s now changed her mind because “modern fake fur looks so much like real fur, that the moment it leaves the atelier no one can tell it’s not the real thing”.

Stella added: “And I’ve struggled with that. But I’ve been speaking to younger women about it recently and they don’t even want real fur.

“So I feel like maybe things have moved on, and it’s time, and we can do fabrics which look like fur, if we take them somewhere else.”

The long-haired synthetic coats, which have been hand-embroidered with geometric patterns, will each be sold with a label reading “Fur Free Fur” stitched somewhere visible, such as on the wrist or nape of the neck.

Elsewhere in the show were tailored coats, ankle-length knits and loose tweed suits as well as a number of little black dresses and corset-based blouses.

According to The Guardian newspaper, Stella said of her latest work: “We spent a lot of time on evening wear this season. What you wear in the evening is important for women, because it’s so personal, and it’s so complicated to get it right. I like trousers for evening, especially when they have that width and attitude to them.”

The show was attended by Stella’s father Sir Paul McCartney – who is a committed vegan – supermodel Cara Delevingne and her sister Poppy Delevingne and rapper Kanye West.
