How to make tea time at the office healthier

Tea Time

By Melanie Chisnall

Tea time at the office can be hard. All those sweet treats just waiting to be eaten – and you certainly don’t want to offend anyone who’s brought a batch of brownies.

But when you’re trying to drop a few kilos, this is exactly the kind of thing that quietly derails the diet on which you’ve been working so hard.

Make tea time healthier

Here are a few tips to help you cut down those tea time calories – without snubbing any of your coworkers:

  1. Bring a plate of low-fat treats once in a while. You never know, you could inspire your colleagues to do the same.
  2. Indulge in half a chocolate brownie, and mention that you really shouldn’t be doing this as you’re on a diet. This way you’re eating fewer calories and not offending the baker.
  3. Take healthy snacks with you to work every day so that you have something to eat while everyone else is devouring koeksisters and milk tarts.
  4. ‘Zen’ your tea time. Treat yourself to a different box or two of herbal teas each month and keep them in your desk drawer. Pair your cup of calm with a tasty nibble that’s going to make you feel good and energised.
