Nick Cannon regrets getting Mariah Carey’s name tattooed on his back because it’s been a “painful” process to try and cover it up.

The ‘America’s Got Talent’ host admits it’s been agonising trying to turn his estranged wife’s moniker into an inking of Jesus Christ across his shoulder blades following their split earlier this year.

Speaking on the ‘Meredith Vieira show’, he said of his new etching: “It’s like a whole work of art, my entire back and my arm and everything.

“I was leaving the gym going into the studio just having had that work done and they [the paparazzi] got me. It’s going to be a big reveal eventually, but it’s not finished, it’s half-way done. It’s a lot of pain.”

He then advised the 60-year-old presenter never to get a tattoo of someone’s name after she asked him what kind of inking she should get done.

He added: “Don’t put anyone’s name!”

Nick, 34, announced he’d split from Mariah, 44, in June following six years of marriage, but he insists they’re still on amicable terms for the sake of their three-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.
