Centred on 67 years of Nelson Mandela’s life of service, Nelson Mandela International Day is a call to action for people everywhere to spend as little as 67 minutes of their time towards helping to make the world a better place.
This year, the staff of the South African High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya will be spending their 67 minutes of service spending time and giving gifts to the children of the New life Home Trust orphanage in Kilimani.
The High Commission is encouraged by various partners and organizations in Kenya who will this year be undertaking various activities in different communities, helping to spread the message of Nelson Mandela International Day. This is a great step in ensuring that Nelson Mandela International Day becomes a call to action to everyone everywhere to serve their communities in their own small way.
Several activities in Kenya will be taking place on Nelson Mandela International Day, including:
- The United Nations will be spending the day with the children at The Nest Home in Limuru from 9:00 am.
- The Global Peace Foundation will be planting 670 trees at Embakasi Girls Secondary School from 9:00 am.
- South African Airways will be spending the day with the children at Nyumba ya Wazee in Kasarani from 10:00 am. Passengers landing on SAA flights from Johannesburg will be treated to a birthday cake.
Nelson Mandela encouraged all of us to “Make everyday a Mandela Day.” In this light, Capital Lifestyle Magazine asks: What are you doing today to make a difference?
