Regional retailer, Nakumatt Holdings, multimedia solutions arm, Planet Media Cinemas is set to resume its operations this weekend at the Prestige Plaza mall, along Ngong Road in Nairobi, Kenya.

The return of Planet Media Cinemas at the former Starflix Theatres is part of the firm’s expansion plans following the disruption of its flagship operations at the Westgate Mall.

Moviegoers can expect a better viewing experience with the integration of 3D Digital cinema projection systems.

“This weekend, the new Planet Media Cinemas Theatre, will host the screening of popular 3D Cinemas including; Maleficent 3D,Edge of Tomorrow 3D, and X-Men Days of Future Past 3D,” Atul Shah, Nakumatt Holdings, Managing Director confirmed.

Ahead of a worldwide switch from analogue to digital cinema projection systems, Plant Media Cinemas was the first movie theatre house in Kenya to adopt the new digital standard.

Globally, movie theatres are rushing to complete their conversions to digital formats as all leading movie distributors continue to reaffirm an end 2014 cut-off date to cease analogue 35mm film distribution.

In Kenya, Shah, explained that Planet Media Cinemas have installed new digital cinema systems with specifications technically known as 4K 3D and High Frame Rate (HFR) capabilities running on Dolby Screen Servers at its Nairobi and Kisumu Theatre houses.

With HFR 3D digital format, patrons at Planet Media Cinema will enjoy a smoother and more life-like picture as the eye sees twice the number of images per second. The new digital film projectors at Planet Media Cinemas also guarantee better sound clarity.
