Inspired by his experience as a fashion buyer, Capetonian designer, Ruald Rheeder founded his eponymous menswear fashion label in 2011 within the Young Designers Emporium stable and now has a national presence in YDE and nearly 20 other boutique stores countrywide. Later, after the success of the menswear line, and in response to popular demand, the Ruald Rheeder line of ladies’ wear was launched. The Ruald Rheeder brand vision is to create fashion that is of world-class quality and aesthetic whilst continuously pushing fashion boundaries and growing its local market share to become the top designer brand in South-Africa.

Ruald is inspired by people from all walks of life – tapping into various shapes, architectures, textures and colour to spark his creativity. The Ruald Rheeder aesthetic focuses on fit and design, and incorporates Ruald’s imaginative ability to create an effortlessly wearable line that exudes style, sophistication and, most importantly, confidence.

The new autumn/winter 2014 collection is fashion’s trip to the dark side – that shadowy other place where all people yearn to go but never do – a world of underground pleasure and mystique. The collection is predominantly black and is comprised of luxe textures including leather, faux fur, tweed, knits and the finest cottons. Significant features of this dark collection are the return of the coat in all forms, as well as cleverly constructed trousers.

Here are some highlights from Ruald Rheeder’s 2014 MB Fashion Week Joburg Saturday show.
