Hot Trend Alert: Sheer Lace

I’m super excited about the sheer lace trend that’s hit the red carpets lately. Not every trend seen on the runway gets a chance to shine when the actual clothing season arrives. However, trends always get a popularity boost when celebrities take a shine to it. Beyonce looked absolutely amazing in her sheer white Michael Costello lace gown at the 2014 Grammy Awards held at the Staples Center on January 26 in Los Angeles. The next morning, designer, Michael Costello, woke up to more than 400 text messages from friends and family, all sending their praises of the handmade look. “There are three layers to the dress — a white lace, a nude illusion mesh, and another layer underneath it with magical fairies, holding up all the flowers — I’m sorry, I’m bad at dress descriptions!” Costello told Pret-a-Reporter, still in disbelief. “I love to design things that have that element of whimsical, and that element of almost nakedness. I love nakedness.”

Check out a few other celebrities who are working the look magnificently.

Beyonce_Superbowl

Beyoncé surprised fans by joining husband Jay Z on stage at a Pre-Super Bowl concert. While that was all squeal-worthy, the singer’s super sexy Roberto Cavalli number probably also caused a few gasps on it’s own. Mainly because the sparkling gown featured sheer peek-a-boo paneling which allowed all of the star’s famous curves to be very visible.

AmbraSheerLaceJumpsuit

LHHNY’s Emily Bustamante celebrated her birthday with friends wearing an Alexis Ambra Sheer Lace Jumpsuit. The jumpsuit features a round neckline with solid bandeau underlay,  slit back, long sleeves, wide legs fall from waist, solid shorts underlay, and a  back zip. Love it!

AdrienneBailon

Adrienne Bailon was spotted at Effy Jewelry’s 35th Anniversary wearing a  Michael Costello laced gown. The look is  absolutely stunning and detail on this dress is breathtaking!

Jennifer Metcalfe

Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Metcalfe decided  to go all out by wearing an incredibly daring sheer lace dress as she attended  the National Television Awards last month. The 30-year-old star wowed in her Philip Armstrong gown, which was made up of little more than scraps of black lace,  clustered in certain areas to protect her modesty. Due to the style of the gown, Jennifer went underwear free for the red carpet occasion, in order to avoid any embarrassing lingerie flashes. Beautiful!

Since we can’t all grace red carpets, we must figure out how to make it work without getting kicked out of a place or ridiculed by people, or even worse,  getting arrested or cited for indecent exposure! When wearing sheer and lace there’s a fine line between looking like a stylista and looking like a street-walker. Remember these rules and stay on the right side of the line:

  • Less is more! Pick one sheer or lace garment per outfit, you want to look smart not skanky.
  • Pick your undergarments carefully, a purple bra strap poking out from a white lace top is not pretty.
  • If you’re going sheer, show off your best bits.
  • This look works for accessories too so break out those lace pumps and lace detailed bags/clutches.
