The Salam Center for Cardiac Surgery is run by “Emergency,” an Italian medical charity co-founded by Dr. Gino Strada.

In an area better known for apocalyptic sandstorms, punishing heat, and seemingly endless war, Sudan’s state-of-the-art Salam Center for Cardiac Surgery is accessible to millions in need of trauma surgery and first-rate healthcare thanks to the innovative efforts of Dr. Gino Strada.

Since 1994, Emergency has treat 5 million people free of charge. The Center is the only hospital in Africa that provides completely free heart surgery for patients.  Emergency performs up to 1,500 free heart surgeries per year.
