Kudos Uhuru Kenyatta on election win: AKON

AKON-ELEPHANT

Senegalese rapper Akon has congratulated Uhuru Kenyatta on his inauguration as Kenya’s new President.

Using his twitter account, the 40-year-old rapper said he wished he could have been there to witness the occasion.

His tweet on Tuesday was accompanied by an instagram photograph of the new President waving.

Akon’s tweet reflects the amount of interest that the Kenyan elections have generated. Coming off from a tragic and violent poll in 2007, this year’s peaceful process has been widely lauded by the international community.

The new Jubilee Coalition government looks keen on promoting the living standards of young Kenyans.

Several musicians including Sauti Sol, Daddy Owen, Madtraxx, Rufftone and the Moipei Quartet were invited to perform at the inauguration ceremony, in a break from the traditional Armed Forces choirs.

The musicians saw it as a positive step in the right direction, and hoped that the new government would invest in the well being of artistes – whose biggest challenge is getting decent earnings from their music.
