IK, Vimbai chosen to host fresh African awards

IK-VIMBAI

TV presenters IK and Vimbai have been chosen to host the first ever Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) which take place in Lagos on March 9.

The charismatic Big Brother Africa presenter IK Osakioduwa and StarGist’s leading lady Vimbai Mutinhiri were chosen because of their experience and talent, according to the M-Net Africa MD Biola Alabi.

“IK’s cool, calm professionalism combined with his effortless charm is clearly a benefit during busy live broadcasts while the always optimistic and stylish Vimbai’s enthusiasm for lifestyle programming makes her the ideal co-host for what we are confident will be a glittering, glamourous night for African stars,” she said in a statement.

Just like Supersport broadcasts of local matches has contributed in raising the profile of Kenyan football, it is hoped that the AMVCA’s will raise the profile of the African film industry without leaving out any region within the continent.

Vimbai is hoping to make the event a smash hit: “I feel there is no better way to pay homage to the outstanding stars we have on this continent than to be a part of the grand occasion to honour each one of them… I can’t wait to see the finest couture on the continent. I’m also looking forward to some hot entertainment. It’s going to be bigger and better than anything we’ve ever seen or experienced!”

Held in association with MultiChoice and sponsored by Amstel Malta, the event will be a glitzy affair at the EKO Exhibition Centre.

IK is equally proud to be a part of the AMVCAs and spoke highly of the talents represented.

“There are quite a few names there that are not as widely known as others. A closer look at these relatively ‘new’ players will reveal the maturity and finesse of their craft. That’s why it’s important to appreciate what they do. Of course I’m also excited about the nominated veterans who never fail to deliver great quality in their movies. We could never celebrate them enough!”

You can still vote for your favourite actor or actress, including the Kenyan nominees, on www.africamagic.tv. The Awards will be broadcast on DStv and GOtv on Saturday March 9 at 20:00 CAT.
