Behind the scenes with Fashion & Music Without Boundaries

Breathtaking, inspiring, unique and well-executed photos of four up-and-coming Kenyan models beam from photographer Abraham Ali’s Mac. Unmistakable feelings of excitement, satisfaction and relief shower a team of faces, staring intently at every photograph, analyzing the finest of details. The flurry of activity from the team, twenty or so professionals from makeup artists to security guards to hair stylists to assistants of assistants, proved that there is definitely much chaos behind the perfection.

Ahead of the second edition of Fashion & Music Without Boundaries set to descend on the tranquil and posh beachfront Swahili Beach Resort in Diani, Kenya December 14th to 17th, the creative team behind the annual festival that unites the arts and heritage staged a pre-event photoshoot at the Air Kenya hanger at Wilson Airport, the busiest airport in Africa outside of South Africa and still remains the home to the glamourous spirit of aviation.

Wearing creations by designers Deepa Dosaja, Dishol House of Design and Katungulu Mwendwa, the models paused in between photographs, as if on queue, to be re-powered and preened to perfection by Suzie Beauty and Cosmo Drea. The unforgiving midday sun and the intense heat that radiated from below us made us wonder if the tarmac would soften and melt. Seeking refuge from the elements, the rest of the crew entertained themselves with the latest in ArtLife and munched on Artcaffe’s famed Date Cookies.

Queue the props. Beautiful, whimsical and purposeful furniture handcrafted from reclaimed wood by Rooms added colour and injected personality into Ali’s compositions. Bottles of ultra premium Vodka by Ciroc emphasized how exclusivity goes hand-in-hand with glamour.
