Internationally acclaimed Kenyan rapper Stella Mwangi will perform one of her latest tracks at the grand finale of the Nokia Don’t Break the Beat competition on Saturday, where East Africa’s best upcoming cypher will be chosen from a spread of six finalists.
It will be the first time she is performing the track called “Stella, Stella, Stella” live, and that also one week before its international release.
“I’m glad that I will be performing that song for the first time in my home country. It will also be my birthday that day so that will be extra special,” the Norway based rapper said at a press conference.
Stella is the headline act at the Saturday event, with more EA flavour from rapper/producer Madtraxx, super swaggalicious Keko, and Adam Mchomvu from Tanzania.
Don’t Break The Beat has been a roaring success in the region since it launched in July, appealing to the often ignored youth eager to make a break.
Out of a massive 600+ contestants, the six East Africans chosen were Ally Abdallah Chuma and Njama George Mtandika from Tanzania, Kkeeya Nicholas and Sebbowa Kizito of Uganda, and Kenyans Kevin Otieno( Ojiji ) and Richmond Sangara (Xcalibur).
The winner will get a chance to record a track with Stella, record 3 other songs plus videos, a one-year contract with Decimal Records, and Sh250,000 in cash.
The showdown takes place at Club Ichonic on Saturday evening.
