ARTIST of the WEEK: Avril

Shares

She is soft-spoken but strong willed. Her steadfast determination has seen her through one controversy after another ~ and she swears she doesn’t go looking for them. Avril is now charming fans all over the country through her character Miss B’Have on the MTV Staying Alive project, Shuga: Love, Sex, Money. Capital Lifestyle had a small chat with her…

1. In a nutshell who is Avril…

Avril is a musician, an entertainer, singer/songwriter and a person passionate about the Arts.

2. I grew up listening to/ watching…

Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Shania Twain, Marvin Gaye and scores of other musicians. As for watching there was Jean Claude Van Damme and Arnold Schwarzenegger because of my dad and his love for action movies. I also watched ALOT of cartoons/animations which I still have an undying love for.

3. I have had a passion for music/acting since…

Time immemorial. I was always on stage growing up but most of the time it was because of public speaking and a bit of acting. As for music I attempted being part of my school choir but I didn’t have the patience to stick with it to the end.

4. I get my inspiration from…

Everything around me. I am a passionate person and I take the experiences I go through as learning experiences. So be it a difficult situation or an exciting situation I take it all in stride to inspire to do and be the best at what I do.

5. Apart from singing/acting I can also…

Cook, lol. I would love to go to culinary school at some point. But seriously, I am a designer by trade and I practise through my product design company The Avie Way Concepts.

6. I can never leave the house without my…

Phone. I’m always on my phone.

7. My number one role model is…

My mum. She is the most patient, loving and kind person I know.

8. I am currently working on…

Music, music and more music. I am also working on finding a suitable grounding for my company so that I know what exactly it will accommodate.

9. My best time ever growing up was when…

I found my voice and clearly told my parents what I wanted to do with my life and convinced them that it was the right thing :-).

10. …These are a few of my favourite things

– Nice handmade jewellery
– The iPhone 4s (gotta get myself one)
– A neat space
– Modern creatively done functional sculptures

11. My advice on upcoming artists/actors is…

To hold on to your dream. Until you believe in it hard enough and work at achieving it, then the doors will begin to open.
