What’s in a kiss…

Why do we kiss? Is it because we want to know what that other person tastes like or is it because there was just no reason not to kiss that person?

Could it be because you feel that is the only way you can express your feelings, or to assuage the whirlwind of feelings you have towards them?

Kisses are an effective tool to know whether you and the object of your attraction are compatible. If you have been flirting, it is the most appropriate gauge to show where the relationship will head next. A bad kiss will take a few days to get over, while a good kiss will give you confidence to move to the next level – if need be.

A friend of mine asked me last week if I had ever had a meaningless kiss; if I had tried to kiss someone or agreed to be kissed, for no reason at all. My answer surprised me, and I wondered how many others had let someone into their gentle intimate space (aka mouth) for nothing other than a ‘woiye reason’.

A kiss is defined as “a touch with the lips as a sign of love, sexual desire, reverence, or greeting”.

It can also be explained as “a common physical display of affection that involves the lips, and sometimes the nose and tongue, as well as other parts of the body”.

It is a fact that there are several varying and outlandish reasons why people kiss, and it is also a fact that among those there are right reasons and wrong reasons.

For instance, it is very much in order to kiss someone because you have never done it before. In this case, look for someone that you have is a good kisser, (if they’re single of course), look shy and say you’re probably not as experienced/good as they are. They will open up and not hesitate to point you in the right direction.

You should NOT kiss someone because they are bugging you and you think it will get them out of your way. It will either end up with both parties not talking to each other, because only one person enjoyed the kiss or with the bugger stalking you even more because you’re such a hot kisser.

To a lot of people, kissing is a definite part of foreplay, and is sometimes the only action a person will get for many months. It is however a very important part of the dating/courting/socialising game, and it is crucial not to waste your time, and other people’s time as well.

Some people kiss as if it were a love potion, to make others fall in love with them, and yet others kiss to appease those that they have wronged.

There are 20 different types of kissing, according to About.com, the most common being a French kiss (obviously), and the Butterfly Kiss and the Spiderman Kiss featuring in the top 10.

Whatever kind of kiss it, make sure all kisses have the Mamihlapinatapai – awarded by The Guinness Book of World Records as the most succinct word.

It’s a strange world we live in; what is your contribution? Why do you kiss?
