Omar, Atemi team up for charity concerts

Barely three months since he released his latest album, UK-based neo soul musician Omar Lye-Fouk is back in Nairobi for a series of concerts where part of the proceeds will go to charity.

This time round, instead of Salif Keita or Honey LaRochelle, Omar will be sharing the stage with Kenya’s own Atemi Oyungu.

They have performances lined up at Club Volar on Friday and Mombasa Continental Resort on Saturday.

Omar has six studio albums including Sing, which he re-released in July this year as he puts finishing touches on his upcoming album due out next year. His new music will feature at the Kenya concerts.

Omar’s music is mostly referred to as underground, but he has recorded tracks with Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, Estelle, Common, and many others.

Atemi, meanwhile, has a long list of accolades. She started off her music career using the name Carol Atemi before changing it along the way. She is in the process of recording her sophomore album, and insiders are raving about its goodness, saying it will top the success of her debut album “Hatimaye” by far.

The event has been organised by Smooth Urban, who will donate 15% of the proceeds to the Twakutukuza Trust, which helps pay bills for needy cancer patients.

Advance tickets are available on www.pesapal.com and at any Artcaffe Restaurant.

Capital FM’s DJ Andre will be spinning the decks before and after the performances.
