Moran Publishers snaps up Macmillan Uganda

June 2, 2011 – Just about six months after taking over Macmillan Kenya, Moran Publishers Limited is in the process of increasing its surface area to Uganda.

International publishing business, Macmillan, has completed the sale of its interest in Macmillan Uganda Limited, and once the purchase of their majority shareholding by Moran Publishers is complete, Moran Publishers Uganda will be born.

Annette Thomas, Chief Executive of Macmillan, said: “We are pleased to complete this sale to Moran Publishers, as a means of empowering strong and locally-directed educational publishing businesses in Africa. The Ugandan market will provide great opportunities for Moran Publishers to become a substantial presence in East Africa and we will observe their progress with great interest.”

David Muita, MD of Moran Publishers, said: “After well over 30 years of distinguished educational publishing for Ugandan schools, the company is now well-placed to move forward under the direction of its local management and ownership of Moran Publishers.

The move is consistent with Macmillan’s legacy of developing local capacity, through training and hands-on experience, which has produced some of the most skilled publishing executives, across Africa and beyond. Our clients can be assured of continuity of service and a continuation of the high pedagogical standards previously associated with the Macmillan brand.”

Macmillan has become a household name on the publishing scene in Uganda, with a reputation of excellence and innovation.
