Roads lead to Sawa Sawa this weekend

May 23, 2011 – The anticipation for the 5th Sawa Sawa Festival happening in less than a week is gaining momentum.

This year’s theme is the “Power and Beauty of Women”.  Sawa Sawa Festival aims at involving the public in a positive way to celebrate femininity across borders.

Workshops focusing on peer education, gender issues, creativity, women empowerment, and women and the new constitution; will be held during this week.  Through Sarakasi’s affiliated performing artists and projects, Sawa Sawa hopes to encourage the youth to participate in these workshops in order to raise awareness in their communities.

Sawa Sawa Festival 2011 will be held at the Carnivore Grounds on Saturday May 28th – 29th, 2011.

Ensuring everyone will be entertained as well, the Champions League Finals between Manchester United and Barcelona will be screened live on May 28th, 2011 at the venue. Sunday May 29th will be a Family Fun Day.

Acts include an all female vocalist collaboration called Mabinti, Keyan gospel artist Daddy Owen, poet Wanjiku Mwaura, Congolese Fally Ipupa who will be headlining the event on Saturday, and Kenyan heavyweights Sauti Sol will be headlining Sunday’s concert.

Tickets are available at Tamambo (The Mall in Westlands), Tamambo Tapaz (Village Market), Tamambo (Karen Blixen Coffee Garden), Carnivore, Concorde Motors (Shell Hurlingham), Sarakasi Dome and Jacaranda Motors (Shell Lavington).

 

Gate charges will be as follows:  

28th May 2011: 6pm-12am Entry-1000/= Advance, 1200/= Gate; 2500/=V.I.P

29th May 2011: (Family Fun Day) 12pm to pm Entry-500/= (Kids below 12 years-Free)
