May 3, 2011 – The 6th annual Groove Awards went down on Saturday the 30th and just like last years event, this one did not disappoint! If anything, this year was even better. There were no emcees per se to begin with and this worked pretty well as it saved on time.
Daddy Owen’s star shone again for the second time running as he scooped the awards in each category he had been nominated in. The King of Kapungala walked away with four awards among them the prestigious Male Artiste of the Year which he gave to gospel hip hop rapper Juliani. Juliani won the Rap Song of the Year Award.
The King of Kapungala’s hit song, Saluti, in which he collabo-ed with Kambua, Esther Wahome and Emmy Kosgey, won a record three awards as Song of the Year, Collabo of the Year and Video of the Year.
Alice Kamande won the Female Artiste of the Year award while BMF walked away with Group of the Year while.
Gospel newcomer Paul Mwai won two awards for Album of the Year for the song Racing up and Worship Song of the Year for I’m in the Race. The visibly happy Mwai managed to thank God and everyone for allowing him to stand on that stage and accept the Awards.
Rose Muhando (TZ) of the Nibebe fame won the “Skiza Ringback Tone” while Christina Shusho won the Artiste of the Year (Tanzania).
The Groove Awards were a success, and it was all over social media as people watching it live were appreciating the mad talent they saw, how the gospel music industry has evolved and how the whole event was organized.
