Glamorous radio: Janice is back!

April 5, 2011 – On the eve of the launch of Capital in the Morning with Chris and Janice, the sultry-eyed new voice of Capital FM Janice Njiru, spared a few moments for the Lifestyle team and our questions…

Q: Being away for 10 years and making the decision to move back to your home country is already tough enough.  On top of that, you’re diving right into the intimidating Kenyan media scene right away!  It’s the eve of your launch, how are you feeling?

A: To be very honest, everything has just been amazing!  I’m trying to give myself some quiet time and to really listen to myself.  I’ve been planning to come back home for so long.  Thinking back to how things happened, it’s definitely God’s work.  I never thought I’d be back so soon and also to be working with such an amazing Station where people have been so supportive.

Nairobi has changed so much.  My city has grown exponentially in the last decade.  And, it’s just exciting to be back!

A: I have a lot of confidence in my own social network.  At the same time, the media in Kenya has grown so much that it may seem a bit intimidating.  It’s a matter of hitting the ground running and really surrounding myself with people in the industry that are knowledgeable about the trends.

The media is definitely not what it was 10 years ago.  There were no blogs, no Twitter and there were no images just floating around.  Now, it’s impossible for me to sit anywhere without anyone knowing who I am. It’s definitely for the better because this way I can interact with listeners much easier.

Q: Your co-host Chris Foot has been on the air for several months now and together with his presence in the business community, Chris is already an established brand on his own.  As the newbie in town, how do you plan on working with that and also, how are you going to build a Chris and Janice brand?

A: Chris as an individual is amazing.  He’s a bundle of information and is incredibly knowledgeable about so many topics.  What I bring to the table is totally different from what Chris is already bringing.  I have a different perspective on issues.  Both of us have gotten to know one another and we see different ways to compliment each other.  However, I doubt we will be agreeing all the time! We’re both very strong headed! [laughs]

Chris and I are really looking forward to working with our listeners.  They’ve been listening to us for so long, so what do they want to hear? In addition to all the informative topics we will be talking about, we will feature human interest stories as well.

What we hope to do is to bring back the glamour into radio.  We want to pay attention to the details.

Q: Finally, are there any sparks between you and Chris?

A: I don’t kiss and tell! [laughs]
