March 18, 2011 – The 9th Chaguo la Teeniez Awards has been officially launched and the chief guest was none other than Hon Martha Karua. Martha also happens to be a nominee for the Chaguo la Teeniez Role Model Award where she will battle for votes with the likes of David Rudisha, Macdonald Mariga and Cecilia Mwangi.

Martha had a unique entrance to the event. She was driven to the podium in a souped up matatu (which has become a culture in Nairobi and the youth hugely identify with it). This was appropriate as this year’s award theme is ‘Revved Up’ which is inspired by the positive aspects of Kenya’s matatu culture.

At the launch which was held at the Standard Media Group HQ’s on Mombasa Road, Hon Karua said that she is proud to be associated with anything good that comes from the youth. “The youth are so important to my life. It is them that believed in me when I tried to run for the presidential seat. It is them that kept me going, therefore I shall forever remain grateful to them and I will support them in whichever way I can”, she declared.

Chaguo La Teeniez Awards provides role models in different fields for the youth to aspire to, past recipients include Daniel Ndambuki and past nominees have also featured John Allan Namu, Jua Cali and Wahu.

In attendance at today’s event were some of the nominated music artists some of who gave thrilling performances as well as other nominees like the cast of the local drama series Changing Times among others.
This years CHAT Awards promise to be bigger and better than ever before seeing as more and more people are getting involved with it.
