'Twilight'-inspired clothing, jewelry, invade malls

Seattle-based American retailer Nordstrom launches a fashion, jewelry and cosmetics collection inspired by the Twilight movie series, with moody t-shirts, hoodies, dresses, and jackets in the tween and teen girls department.

With stylish images of trees and wolf tattoo motifs, the clothing designers Awake, Inc. evoke the film’s Pacific Northwest setting with a trendy update on plaid jackets, reflecting the region’s 1990s grunge music scene. Assorted tops in a palette of grays, slate, brown, and wine colors are printed with “Eternal Love” and graffiti-style expressions, such as “Bet You Can’t Read My Mind.”

The collections are released in conjunction with the upcoming The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the second film in the blockbuster series, starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, to be released November 20. The film, directed by Chris Weitz, depicts a modern take on the classic romance between mortal and vampire, from the successful book series by Stephenie Meyer.

The line of ‘Twilight’ jewelry by N.E.C.A. includes necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and key chains with charms of the wolf pack tattoo emblems from the film in silver- or gold-plated designs.

The Luna beauty line includes Just Bitten lip staining balm, Mortal Glow blushing crème, Femme Fatale gloss, metallic mascara, black and white Moodshadow eye shadow shaped like half-moons. The body powder sparkles, like the story’s vampires exposed to the sun.

Even life-size cutouts of the male stars, Robert Pattinson (Edward) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob) are for sale, due to the demand from fans.

From San Francisco to Miami, Nordstrom will host promotions with the New Moon cast members at shopping malls in a dozen participating stores among its 182 outlets.

Tickets are available at the BP “juniors” department on Halloween, October 31 starting at 8 am.

The retailer will also host ‘Twilight’ Takeover Parties at select Nordstroms. The thematic all-day styling events, on November 14-15, create looks from the collection, such as a Team Edward T-shirt with his black heart necklace. Screening passes and gifts will be given away to customers purchasing outfits.

Borders, the US bookstore chain, has also unveiled ‘New Moon’ merchandise with a collection of t-shirts of the ‘love trio,’ pajamas, posters, bags, and an exclusive Twilight calendar for fans of the stories. http://www.borders.com/twilightshop
