MNET Face of Africa receives face lift

FOA_CONTESTANTS_577998402.jpgNAIROBI, October 30, 2009 – Africa’s only model search competition returns to television screens this November with a whole new look. This edition promises to be emotional, dramatic and entertaining.

Face of Africa showcases the journey of aspiring models from Africa’s busy streets to Africa’s glamorous catwalks. The winner takes home a USD 50,000 plus a modelling contract with O Model Africa. Ghanaian Kate Menson won in 2008.

“Over time, this initiative has shown that it is about so much more than beauty, fashion, and cameras. We want to laugh with them, cry with them, celebrate with them and now our audiences can do this, every step of the way,” said MNET Africa Director Biola Alabi.

Face of Africa will cross 16 countries, uncover fresh new faces, and chart their rise to the top, from discovery to success, from potential to fame, from possibility to reality.

Under the watchful eye of boot camp presenter and former Botswana Face of Africa 2005 Kaone Kario, 24 models will participate in model boot camp in Mombasa, Kenya. KAONE_893097357.jpg

Amidst modelling workshops, fashion photo-shoots and television filming, Mombasa will serve as a backdrop for the first elimination round. A second model boot camp will be held in Dar es Salaam Tanzania at the Swahili Fashion Week set for November.

There are more stops scheduled in Johannesburg and Nigeria plus the shooting of a music video with Nigerian singer song-writer D’Banj.

This year the search includes participants from Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, Sudan and Cameroon.

Carolyne Okenye and Diana Sifuna are representing Kenya.

The castings were filmed and audiences will be able to view the behind-the-scenes of the search and live the experience.

Face of Africa will be screened every Saturday evening on M-Net East. The Face of Africa 2009 Finale will be held in Lagos on Saturday February 6, 2010.
