The confident Nigerian singer was full of jokes, saying that he was christened by Wyclef Jean as the African Michael Jackson.

He feted lovechild Wyre and genge superstar Jua Kali as notable Kenyan musicians, going on to sing Wyre’s hit song “Make A Choice…”

D’Kokomaster was clad in a black Dolce & Gabbana jacket, white t-shirt and blue jeans – at the press conference.

“This is just for the press conference. Now let’s go to the red carpet… kokowear… fire, hah!” he told journalists, saying his style of clothing is not ‘Naija’ style but kokowear!

“I think the way you look speaks a lot for you and I think it goes a long way. So for me, I want to be that Michael Jackson… Dont worry baba, God has blessed us!”

He says he’s ready to break into the international scene after singing for more than five years while based in Nigeria.

“A lot of them (record labels) are speaking to us now. But as you know I am vice-president of Mo Hits records. It’s very African, very Nigerian, so… But we’re still meeting with them to hear what they have to say,” he explained.

D’Banj, whose real name is Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo, is 29 years old and speaks of Fela Kuti as a great mentor in his life. He sings in Yoruba, English and Pidgin, and is well known for songs such as Wind Am Well and Sweet Potato.
