NAIROBI, October 2, 2009 – Beware. A pride of 50 lions has taken over Nairobi. Thank goodness, they are harmless.

The pride of lions are life-size sculptures that have been created by several artists to raise awareness and funds to protect this endangered species. This is an interesting and clever initiative by the Born Free Foundation, dubbed The Pride of Kenya. Each lion has a sponsor, a name and personality.

This massive, free, public art display turned the city wild and encouraged citizens and visitors to Nairobi to support the protection of Kenya’s magnificent wild lions.

After eight weeks of standing proud across our city’s streets, the Pride of Kenya lions will be in need of new homes.

Vote today for your favourite lion, by sending a text message with its name to 5464 (Safaricom only). Cost of SMS Kshs 10. Voting closes October 25.
