Kenya’s Geedy and Corrupt Leaders

By

ONSONGO MATURA

There is so much evil under the sun and it weighs heavily on men: God gives people wealth, possessions and honour, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not enable them to enjoy these things, and a stranger enjoys them instead.

Whoever wants to amass wealth and riches should learn that as goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owner then, except to feast his eyes on them?

Kenya has enough for everyone but unfortunately we have greedy and corrupt leaders. Most of them are/have been involved in many scandals. These corrupt leaders think that they have the vantage position to loot taxpayers’ money and build personal financial empires. They are not at all interested in pursuing ways of creating wealth leave alone understanding how it is created.

One thing they must understand is that whoever loves money never has money enough. Whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income.

Take for example the unscrupulous businessmen/women, hoarding or boosting the prices of essential goods and/or cheating with dishonest scales; politicians with twisted minds bribing the poor and the needy with a packet of salt or Unga so as to be voted into positions of influence. This is a total disgrace.

If you see the poor oppressed in any given society, and justice and rights denied, do not be surprised at such things.

In Kenya today, corruption has been adopted as a way of life. It starts with the leaders of government down to the rest of the common mwananchi (as they would like to call the poor). Experience shows that with this trend the situation could be moving from bad to worse.

Everyone should admit the fact that the sleep of a labourer is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of a rich man (whether obtained genuinely or otherwise) will permit him no sleep.

Woe to them that trample the needy and do away with the poor of the land, to all who practise this and oppressing the poor. People are working hard, trying to make ends meet and paying taxes. Citizens are dying of hunger and starvation and yet our leaders want fat salaries and huge allowances for themselves.

Power is on the side of these oppressors. The poor are shedding tears and they have no comforter.

All that is required now is wisdom on the part of all Kenyan citizens -to make informed choices on the type of future government they would like to put in place. Everyone needs to actively participate in any process that can bring about the change we want in our society. We need to vote these greedy and corrupt leaders out sooner than later. When you spot any wolf in sheep’s clothing never take chances but hunt them down. I say, root them out. Vote wisely!

What is twisted cannot be straightened; what is lacking cannot be counted. More
