UoN’s new environmentally friendly tower with a helipad is completed

NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec. 6 – The China Wu Yi construction company has today handed over the newly completed University of Nairobi Towers to the management of the university.
The 22-storey building whose construction commenced in May 2013, was handed over in a ceremony held at the Chandaria Centre for Performing Arts presided by the Chairman of the university council, Dr Idle Farah.
While addressing a host of university managers including Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mbithi, during the handover ceremony, Dr Farah commended the mega project estimated to cost about Sh 2.3 billion.
On his part, Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mbithi praised the capabilities of the new building saying it provides the much-needed space needed to run programmes at the institution.

Thanking the Council for continued support accorded to the project throughout the construction period, the Vice Chancellor also said the facility will serve as a first contact area for visiting global leaders, scholars, the private sector, as well as other prominent guests.
According to a presentation made during the handover ceremony by lead consultants Waweru and Associates, the ultra-modern architectural masterpiece is expected to meet stringent carbon foot as its full operationalization will achieve close to 100% carbon neutrality.
Among facilities available in the soon to be launched building are learning facilities to accommodate 3000 students, the Vice Chancellor’s Suite, two Deputy Vice Chancellor’s Suites , Senate Boardroom, Council Meeting Room, one lecture theatres of 500 persons, four lecture theatres of 300 persons among others.
The building also has a fully operational helipad.
The tower is expected to among other things set the pace for ecologically sustainable designs while at the same time affirm the position of the University of Nairobi as the leader in innovation in Kenya and the region.
