We all know that friend on social media who posts selfies almost every single day giving a blow by blow account of their day; In class, #GetThatDistinction, #hustleMode, #VacayTings, #SleepAllDay… ad neuseum.

To mask the obvious narcissism, the new trend is to post a selfie with a motivation quote or a bible verse. Some post photos of what they own, who they are married to or their kids just to get those more-often-than-not fake comments and then keep refreshing for a new dose of self-esteem. Others will hide it by including other people in the picture but the objective remains the same; to get social affirmation via likes and comments.

According to research from California State University, excessive use of social media may be connected to depression, narcissistic personality disorder, OCD, ADHD and other conditions.
