Nigerian teen, Katherine Eta, came in third place at the recently concluded Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship 2017 (#MOSWC2017). The 16-year-old girl is the only African who made it to the top three finalists. The competition run from 30th to 2nd August came to a close a few days ago at Anaheim California.

The championship was held in Disneyland, California, the USA with participants from over 120 countries. Katherine attributes her success to hard work and determination. She is a final year student at Childville Secondary School in Lagos and she urged her fellow students to see failure as a reason to work even harder. Katherine walked away with $1,500 cash prize and a NuVision Solo 10Draw Tablet. She got a cash prize from the private Nigerian bank that sponsored her throughout the competition.

The MOSWC is an annual competition that tests students’ skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. It is open to students aged 13-22 who are enrolled in an academic institution. The students get to interact with others from different countries. This year had over 1.1 million students competing. The competition lasted for about a week with Wai Feng Chang from Hong Kong taking first place and Chi Kei Leong from Macao coming second.
