Who Is The True Queen Of Rap

The year kicked off with a duel between hip hop’s best female emcees. Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma went head to head when Remy Ma called out the “Anaconda” rapper Nicki Minaj for her lyrical prowess.

The diss track “Shether” by Remy formerly known as Remy Martin was a slap in the face to Brooklyn native Onika Tanya Maraj aka Nicki. The track quickly went viral after it’s release in February 2017. The contents of the track detailed Nicki’s plastic surgery, as well as relationship problems with her former beau Meek Mill. Remy also did not fail to share her thoughts on Nicki’s rap skills accusing her of having ghost writers for her award-winning raps stating “…the whole industry know that your $hit is a wrap, no to be the Queen of rap, you can’t have a ghostwriter.” After her release from jail in July 2016, Remy a Bronx native has been plotting her comeback. It became apparent that Remy had lots to prove and was keen on winning back her title as the rap queen of New York.

Fans took notice of the fund, with many choosing sides. The Twitter chatter went on, with celebrities even getting involved in the controversy. Nicki was not one to take the beating lying down.  The Pink Friday star hit back with her latest track, “No Frauds” apparently directed at the haters. Throwing jabs at Remy with the lyrics, “you can’t beat Pablo if your tracks ain’t selling…” Nicki gave away that Remy’s album sales on her collaboration project with Fat Joe were below average. However, Nicki may have conveniently underestimated her opponent, as, since her comeback into the rap game, Remy has already gained a Grammy nod for her Fat Joe collab ” All the way up.”

The bad blood continued to brew better former friends as  Remy performed at the legendary Hot 97 Summer Jam where she had Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Lil Kim,  reality star turned rapper Cardi B onstage during her performance of the diss track “Shether”.  The two then performed a week later in Atlanta on the 17th of June 2017 for a birthday party were Nicki went on after Remy Ma.  Needless to say, the two stay away from each other, avoiding conflict altogether.

The rivalry later spewed over to the social media networks and there is no telling to what extent the two will go, to claim the crown of Hip Hop’s finest. When all is said and done, Nicki Minaj has more album sales, with a net worth of $75 million where a 6-year prison sentence put Remy out on the sidelines while Nicki rose up the charts. Despite her recent climb back up the charts, it is difficult to say if the “Lean Back” rapper Remy, can truly snatch back the crown from Nicki Minaj.

Check out the history of the Remy-Nicki relationship and their subsequent beef.
