sc-election2013

After weeks of campaigning and mobilising students to listen to their ideas and believe in their visions, the 5th Strathmore Student Council was voted in on 8th February. The candidates presented their manifestos and agenda during speeches and debates as the audience – mostly made up of the electoral colleges – engaged them with tough questions and challenged some of the promises they hoped to implement.

For some candidates, the going was especially tough during the debate sessions where they had to face-off with fellow candidates vying for the same position. The debates were moderated by officials of various clubs and societies in the University with the help of the Elections Committee.

The secrete ballot voting began at 11.00am on Friday, 8th February and closed at 6.00pm paving way for the counting process which got underway immediately. The tallied results were announced at 7.30pm. The Dean of Students, Mr Paul Ochieng, announced the results which were received with jubilation by the winning candidates and in appreciation by those that lost.

The Fifth Student Council Members:

Maxwell Oloo (BBIT 3) Chairman
Yvonne Ochieng (BBS 3) Vice-Chairman
Elvis Kassam (BCOM 1) Secretary
June Kang’ata (BCOM 3) Public Relations Representative
Mandela Sangura (BCOM 2) Sports Representative
Pauline Oketch (BCOM 2) Sports Representative
Lilian Dzombo (BCOM 3) Academic Representative
Moses Ndeda (BBIT 2) Academic Representative
John Ondiko (BBIT 3Ex) Financial Representative

The elections were a testimony that Strathmore University students can hold peaceful, free and fair elections worthy of an institution of higher learning.
