National Bank links up with WorldRemit to facilitate diaspora transactions

Headquartered in London, WorldRemit has over 360 employees and is considered one of the fastest growing money transfer services sending money from 50 countries to 148 countries

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 14 – National Bank of Kenya has partnered with digital money transfer service WorldRemit to enable Kenyans living abroad make instant transfers to East Africa.

The partnership allows WorldRemit users make instant bank deposits to NBK accounts held in Kenyan Shillings and US Dollars, as well as send funds for cash pickup in Kenya Shillings across NBK’s branch network.

National Bank Chief Executive Wilfred Musau has said the partnership will enhance speed and convenience to the bank’s diaspora clients as well as provide remittance options.

“Kenyan customers can now transfer funds to NBK accounts quickly, to be paid out in shillings or dollars. It’s a welcome expansion of our fast, safe and lower cost online service which has already proved so popular with Kenyans,” added Ismail Ahmed, founder and CEO at WorldRemit.

According to the Central Bank of Kenya, Kenyans living abroad sent home over 177 billion in 2016, up from Sh159 billion, making it Kenya’s largest source of foreign exchange.
