Safaricom calls, data and M-Pesa down countrywide – Update

The outage has also affected M-Pesa services/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 24 – Mobile service provider Safaricom has confirmed it is experiencing networking failure affecting its services countrywide. 

Customers have not sent or received calls or text messages for the last two hours. Data and M-Pesa services have also been interrupted.

On its official Twitter account, @SafaricomLtd, the company says it is working to restore the services.

“We have a slight technical fault with the Network services countrywide but the issue is being resolved.”

The outage has affected over 27 million Safaricom customers and millions more connected through the M-Pesa platform including KCB MPesa and CBA’s MShwari.

Update:

“We have identified the root cause of the outage and are working to resolve this in the shortest time possible. In the meantime, Voice, Data, SMS, M-PESA and Enterprise services will be available intermittently until the issue is fully resolved,” Safaricom CEO has said in a statement.

“We will continue to update customers on the progress to restore services. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

Collymore says the issue has been resolved at 4.30pm, Monday, and the company’s “Business Continuity Planning Protocol invoked.”

In a statement, Collymore assures customers that Safaricom’s systems and network is intact.
