Savannah Cement resumes full-scale operations with plant upgrade

Savannah supplies cement to Sinohydro Corporation and paving blocks manufacturer KenBro for the construction of Outer Ring Road in Nairobi.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 13 – Local cement manufacturer Savannah Cement has resumed full-scale operations following a major plant overhaul closure over the festive season.

The firm, which has traditionally undertaken its annual maintenance works in the last quarter of the year, has now adopted a festive season shutdown to minimize impact on service delivery and guarantee quality consistency.

Speaking when he confirmed the plant re-commissioning, Savannah Cement Managing Director, Mr. Ronald Ndegwa said the festive season closure was undertaken to ensure that customer interests in the local and export markets are upheld.

With a healthy growing balance of both corporate and retail customers in the local and regional market, Savannah Cement, opted to undertake its plant overhaul over the festive season to minimize supply disruptions.

“At Savannah Cement, we have opted to adopt a festive season annual maintenance routine going forward to enable us meet our customer needs more efficiently,” he said, adding that, “crucial mechanical parts of the cement grinding mill have been replaced to boost production efficiency and maintain the highest quality.”

While extending gratitude to the firm’s customers and stakeholders for their patience and understanding during the annual maintenance shutdown, Mr. Ndegwa further confirmed that plans to double the factory’s production capacity are now underway.

“Our customers will continue to experience a significantly improved truck turnaround time when they visit the plant for their supplies,” He added.

The dust free Savannah Cement Factory in Athi River, is East Africa’s most eco-friendly and production efficient cement-manufacturing complex.

The factory features a combination of roller press and V-separator technology before the mill making the production plant one of the most energy-efficient in Sub-Sahara Africa.
