KCB scoops top African bank award

JOSHUA-OIGARA-KCBNAIROBI, Kenya, May 29 – The Kenya Commercial Bank Group has been voted the best commercial bank in Africa by the Banker Africa Magazine in the 2015 East African Awards.

The bank also scooped the award for the Best Regional Bank and the Most Socially Responsible Bank.

The annual East Africa Awards, now in their second year, aim at identifying and promoting excellence and best practice in financial services.

The accolades which saw KCB scoop the top awards attracted participation from other 26 commercial banks in the African region.

KCB has operations in six countries in the region – Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Tanzania.

KCB Group CEO Joshua Oigara said the win highlights the bank’s core values of providing the best and efficient financial services to its customers.

“Our business environment is so dynamic and we have been on the lookout for new opportunities to deepen financial inclusion. On our strategic approach on sustainable financing is to ensure we offer our customers standard and quality services,” added Oigara.

The lender recently sought a Sh28.2 billion loan from Development Finance institutions to finance its loan book in a bid to double its loan book from the current Sh45 billion which is over 31 percent of the market share.

Last month, KCB formally launched its newly created KCB Insurance Agency business, a month after rolling out KCB Sahl banking, its Islamic finance arm.

Going forward into the remaining part of 2015, KCB hopes to leverage on advancements in technology to drive financial inclusion and improve customer experience within the East African region.

More than 7,000 votes were cast across the 26 categories in the registered users of the financial news website.
