NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 3 – It is double blessing for Mercy Jelimo, a student from Pwani University, who has won the second edition of Tetemesha na Safaricom promotion.

The 21 year old gave birth to a bouncing baby girl a day later at the Kilifi district hospital.

Speaking while receiving the cheque at the maternity ward in Kilifi district hospital, Jelimo said that the money will support her to settle the hospital bill, pay her school fees and raise Mishi, her new born daughter.

“This to me is a blessing; prior to my winning I had challenges with settling the hospital bill, paying my school fees in addition to upkeep for me and the baby given that I have no job nor any other source of income,” said Jelimo

The 45-day promotion will see millions of Safaricom customers stand a chance to win Sh500 million worth of prizes. It is open to Prepay and Post-pay customers, with the grand prize winner taking home Sh5 million.

“Due to the success of last year’s ‘Tetemesha na Safaricom’ promotion, we have lowered the grand prize from Sh 10 million to Sh 5 million in order to give out more daily prizes that will ensure more of our customers get a chance to share in the prize money,” said Peter Arina, General Manager, Consumer Business Unit.

Participation in the promotion will be automatic and based on direct airtime top up for pre-pay subscribers and usage for individual post-pay subscribers.

Customers will earn minimum two points for top ups between Sh20-49 and a maximum 100 points for top ups upwards of Sh1, 000. Subscribers will get entries for every top up done via M-PESA or scratch card.
