NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 2 – A leading local commodities distributor, Radbone Clark, has landed a deal to act as the Russell Hobbs domestic appliances marketer and distributor.

In the strategic partnership, Russell Hobbs has retained Radbone Clark to spearhead its market entry plans.

The formal entry of Russell Hobbs in the local market is expected to further enhance the competiveness of the general consumer electronics market.

Speaking when he confirmed the deal, Radbone Clark Managing Director Rajen Patel, said his firm has already embarked on the market entry development initiatives for Russell Hobbs small household appliances.

Patel disclosed that in Kenya, Radbone Clark will work closely with leading supermarkets and exclusive consumer electronics retailers to provide a sales and service platform for a broad range of Russell Hobbs branded household appliances including Salton®, Wiltshire® and George Foreman®.

“The Kenyan consumer electronics market has been growing at a tremendous rate and we are setting off to reintroduce Russell Hobbs premium products to this market for the discerning customers with an eye for quality, reliable home appliances,” Patel explained.

“At Radbone Clark, we shall be investing heavily to support the Russell Hobbs brand by ensuring its availability countrywide while maintaining a reliable after sales service support,” he added.

On the local front, the general consumer electronics market has been enjoying steady growth largely due to the prevailing economic environment.

Available research data at global research house, GfK, indicates that the small household appliances market is particularly emerging as a strong retail category.

According to GfK East Africa, Managing Director, John Muthee, the small household appliances market category is now valued at about Sh1.275 billion. It is expected that this particular category will grow strongly and should reach a Sh1.5 billion market value by the end of the year.
