Hero rides into the Kenyan market

HERO-MOTORCYCLENAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 10 – The world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer by volume, Hero MotoCorp has picked Kenya as its first landing in a strategic multi-billion shilling venture into Africa.

The Indian company has specifically launched modified bikes for Kenya’s vibrant boda boda market.

Speaking during the launch, the company Chief Executive Officer Pawan Munjal said Kenya is an important market, being the leading economy in East Africa.

“This is a strategic market for us in our overall plan for the continent, which is why we are also starting our first Africa CKD assembly operations here. Dawn is the first modified bike from our portfolio to be launched in Africa. This is just the beginning…we are working on several other models for specific international markets,” he said.

He said the company wants to provide convenient and affordable products to the continuing growing youth population in the boda boda sector.

Hero MotoCorp has collaborated with Ryce East Africa – a subsidiary of Sameer Group – to be the authorised distributor of Hero motorcycles in the region.

The company’s products are set to be distributed all over the country, with Western Kenya being the major target.
