The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) attributed the drop to price decreases on some food products.
The average price of two kilograms of sifted maize flour decreased by 1.9 percent from Sh114.52 in November to Sh112.36 in December while one kilo of green grams dropped to Sh118.46 from 119.67 in November.
There was also a drop in the average price of one litre of cooking oil by 0.5 percent from Sh230.87 in November to Sh229.70.
However, a kilo of sugar, two kilos of wheat flour and kerosene went up by 2 percent, 2.5 percent and 1.8 percent respectively.
Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ index went up 0.06 percent between November and December.
“This small increase was due to slightly higher costs of house rents, kerosene and other cooking fuels which outweighed the observed lower costs of electricity and cooking gas,” said KNBS in its monthly statement.
A 50kw/hr of electricity and 13kg cooking gas went down by 1 and 0.5 percent respectively.
The transport index went up by 1.55 percent over the same period, mainly due to higher costs of taxi, bus and matatu fares associated with Christmas festivities.
Month-on-month Inflation has been on a steady decline since November last year, when it peaked to 19.72 per cent.
Kenya’s inflation hit a single digit of 7.74 percent in July this year from 10.05 percent in June.
