New Haco MD Geoffrey Kiarie

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 25 – Haco Tiger Brands has picked Geoffrey Mwathi Kiarie as the new Managing Director to steer the company’s growth.

Kiarie takes over from Polycarp Igathe, who has been promoted to the position of Regional Managing Director for Tiger Brands in East Africa.

A Certified Public Accountant and graduate of commerce from the University of Nairobi, Kiarie started his career as an auditor at Ernst & Young prior to joining Coca Cola Sabco.

He left his position of Country Finance Manager at Coca Cola Sabco Tanzania to join Haco in the position of Finance Director in April 2007.

With over 15 years experience in the fast moving consumer packaged goods industry, Kiarie, has been instrumental in orchestrating growth performance at Haco and enabling a smooth integration into Tiger Brands.

South African firm Tiger Brands acquired Haco in 2008, which saw industrialist and Haco Chairman Chris Kirubi acquire a 49 percent equity stake in the joint enterprise, and Tiger Brands 51 percent.

Since then Haco Tiger Brands has invested Sh400 million in capital expenditure to boost capacity and match consumer demand in East Africa.

Tiger Bands is one of the largest manufacturers and marketers of fast-moving consumer goods in Africa, with a footprint extending across the continent and select countries globally.

The group has 50 manufacturing facilities with majority in South Africa (44), one each in Kenya, Ethiopia, Cameroon and Chile and two in Nigeria.
