KENET scoops CIO100 Award

(KEN MACHARIA) Kenya Education Network is the overall winner of this year’s CIO award. KENET beat 99 other companies, organizations and government agencies to scoop the best organization that is using ICT in an innovative way while adding business value.

KENET received the award at a colourful gala dinner that was a culmination of a two-day ICT conference at the Safari Park Hotel.

KENET won the award for their project that seeks to provide high-speed and affordable internet to institutions of higher learning. KENET, in partnership with other organizations, has six internet points of presence (POPs) connecting more than 61 learning institutions.

KENET also has a solution that allows members from one institution to roam on the internet networks of other institutions at no fee.

Eat Out Kenya took the first runners up position for the online restaurant booking and directory platform, where diners can also browse the menus of over 250 listed restaurants on the website.

Regional Supermarket chain Nakumatt Holdings scooped second runners up. Nakumatt’s winning project was titled “IT enabled miscellaneous products and services”.

The project offers services such as electronic airtime distribution and dispensing from tills, utility bill collection for services such as Safaricom’s Post Paid and Nairobi Water, and bank withdrawals at tills for Equity Customers.

Several other organisations were also awarded in different categories. Electoral Commission Chairman, Isaac Hassan bagged the leadership award for implementing an electronic voter registration and reporting system.
