Samsung Electronics (East Africa) has dropped their new Galaxy S II Smartphone into the Kenyan market to make life easier for the majority of phone users who mostly access the internet through their mobile devices.
In just months, more than 10 million lightweight handsets have been snapped up around the world, its popularity resting on an ultra-thin (8.49mm) rim and dual core that promises to make the experience extra fast.
VIPs, phone lovers, and techie bloggers were invited to the launch of the super-smartphone at the Mercury Lounge last night, where it was introduced to the eager audience by Samsung Electronics East Africa Business Leader, Robert Ngeru.
“During this introductory phase, we shall be looking to roll out more than 10,000 Samsung GALAXY S II units; a modest target which we can easily double given the customer interest that we have noted so far,” he promised.
The Samsung GALAXY S II uses the Android™ 2.3 Gingerbread mobile operating system. The next generation smartphone also includes access to Samsung’s four new content and entertainment hubs, seamlessly integrated to provide instant access to music, games, e-reading and social networking services.
Ngeru explained that there was room in the Kenyan market, which is enjoying a faster uptake of mobile devices, and the smarter the better.
“Indeed, a recent research finding by, Informa Telecoms Media reveals that there will be up to 265 million data subscribers in Africa by 2015, up from about 12 million today confirming the need for smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S II.”
The demand for quality smartphones in the Kenyan market, Ngeru disclosed, is growing at a fast pace as discerning mobile phone users continue to upgrade to handsets that can support value added services.
“GALAXY S II is a natural and powerful evolution of GALAXY S,” said Ngeru.
Incorporating a dual-core application processor and, the Samsung GALAXY S II has the speed and power to provide an unrivalled mobile performance.

The Samsung GALAXY S II has been equipped with an 8MP, high-profile camera and camcorder with 1080p full HD recording and playback. With Samsung’s patented AllShare technology, customers can capture, create and then share their experiences hassle-free.
The Samsung GALAXY S II has also been equipped with the Super AMOLED Plus screen, feted for colour gamut, contrast ratio and edge sharpness, and that I can personally attest to.
A significant reduction in power consumption from Super AMOLED display means it is also more energy-efficient than other comparably sized devices, allowing Samsung to minimize device weight.
For business users, Samsung has introduced a new range of enterprise mobility solutions, helping enterprise customers empower a flexible and connected mobile workforce.
These solutions include enhanced conferencing and connectivity services from Cisco, the most comprehensive mobile implementation of Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and secure remote device management from Sybase.
